Slipknot
Early Days:

Slipknot formed in 1995 in Des Moines, Iowa. The 9 piece band at first didn't use names, but the numbers 0 through 8. They also wore homemade Halloween type masks on stage. After recording a demo in 1996 they drew the attention of several labels. They signed with Roadrunner Records and released their self-title debut album in 1999.

Success:


Slipknot immediately began drawing legions of fans with their intense brand of alt metal/nu-metal and live shows. Appearing on Ozzfest in 1999 was a big help as well. Their debut album went platinum and their second album, 2001's >Iowa debut at number 3 on the album chart.

Top Of The Charts:

Proving they weren't a flash in the pan, Slipknot's third album, 2004's Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses) debuted at number two on the album chart. The group also released a live album in 2005 called 9.0: Live. Slipknot remains one of the best selling current metal bands.

Death Of Paul Gray:

Bassist Paul Gray was found dead in an Iowa hotel room in May of 2010. He was 38 years old.

For better or worse, Slipknot's debut album helped skyrocket the popularity of nu-metal. 9 guys can make a lot of noise, and this is one aggressive album. The vocals combine rap metal with some black metal stylings.
